Togo, a West African nation that borders Ghana, Burkina Faso, and Benin. As of 2017, its population of roughly 7.8 million experiences a 2.5% annual growth rate. Classified as a low-income country with a 2017 per capita income of US$611, Togo's economy heavily relies on agriculture (employing 66% and contributing 41.3% to GDP).
The capital city, Lomé, boasts the only deep-water port in the region, making it a crucial transportation hub. Phosphate mining, construction, energy, and manufacturing constitute the secondary sector, employing roughly 12% of the population and contributing nearly 17% to GDP. Meanwhile, the service industry, dominated by trade and transportation, employs around 21% and contributes roughly 30% to the national economy.
Current Projects
In Togo, the ISFD actively contributes to development across various sectors. Through initiatives like the Access to Energy for Rural Communities Project and LLF - Decentralized Rural Electrification, ISFD strives to bring reliable power to remote areas. Financial inclusion receives a boost through the Integrated Microfinance Project, empowering individuals and fostering economic growth. Education is a key focus, with the Access and Quality Improvement of Basic Education Project and Support to Basic Education Development Project Phase 4 working towards improved access and quality of primary education.
Additionally, the LLF - Support Project to Strengthen the Health System and Primary Healthcare directly addresses healthcare concerns, while the Reconstruction of Adagali-Atakpame Road Project improves crucial transportation infrastructure.
