Country Overview

The Republic of Sudan joined the IsDB on August 12, 1974, as a founding member. IsDB approved the first operation in Sudan in February 1977.

Sudan, strategically situated at the crossroads of Sub-Saharan Africa and the Middle East, boasts a population of approximately 42 million inhabitants and encompasses an area of 1.9 million square kilometers.

Sudan is richly endowed with natural resources. Fertile land facilitates the cultivation of a diverse range of agricultural products, while vast grazing areas support livestock production. The abundance of mineral and water resources, coupled with Sudan's geographic location, presents significant potential for generating development revenue and enhancing food security not only for Sudan but also for countries within the region.
