Country Overview
The Republic of Cameroon, encompassing an area of approximately 475,440 square kilometers, is situated on the West Coast of Africa. Bordering Nigeria to the northwest, Chad and the Central African Republic to the east, and Congo, Equatorial Guinea, and Gabon to the south, Cameroon boasts a coastline stretching roughly 402 kilometers.
Cameroon has abundant natural resources, including oil, valuable timber species, and agricultural products like coffee, cotton, and cocoa. Additionally, Cameroon possesses untapped resources such as natural gas, iron, bauxite, and cobalt.
As of 2017, Cameroon's population is estimated at approximately 24.3 million inhabitants. However, population distribution is uneven across the country's various regions.
Approximately 70% of the population relies on agricultural and pastoral activities for their livelihood. The average annual population growth rate hovers around 2.5%, and the estimated life expectancy at birth stands at 58.1 years (2016 data). It's noteworthy that roughly 87% of the population living in poverty reside in rural areas.
Current Projects
ISFD's contributions to Cameroon span various sectors, promoting rural development, agriculture, education, and healthcare. Projects included the Grassfield Participatory and Decentralized Rural Development Project, the LLF Agriculture Infrastructure and Value Chain Development Project, and the second phase of the Mont Mbappit Rural Development Project. Additionally, ISFD supported smallholder farmers through the Smallholders Agricultural Productivity Enhancement Program. In the education sector, ISFD contributions included the Basic Education Support Project in Priority Areas. Finally, ISFD demonstrated its commitment to healthcare by funding the LLF's program to prevent Mother-To-Child Transmission (PMTCT) of HIV/AIDS and a project supporting maternal, newborn, and child health.
