Country Overview
Landlocked at the heart of Central and South Asia, Afghanistan encompasses a vast territory of approximately 652,864 sq km. Afghanistan shares borders with Pakistan to the south and east, Iran to the west, and a collection of Central Asian nations to the north: Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan. China borders a small northeastern region.
Afghanistan joined the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) in 1976.
Current Projects
The Islamic Solidarity Fund for Development (ISFD) has addressed critical health and social issues in Afghanistan. The Comprehensive Obstetric Fistula Treatment project has directly improved the lives of women suffering from this childbirth complications. Additionally, the ISFD's support through the Tadamon CSOs Accelerator - Save the Children program has tackled multiple challenges. The project has focused on saving lives through improved healthcare access, empowered communities by increasing financial resilience, and prioritized children's well-being by ensuring educational opportunities.
