Eyecare for Empowering Children in Africa (EYECA)
Leveraging the success of AFAB First and Second Generations, the Islamic Development Bank, Islamic Solidarity Fund for Development, and Qatar Charity are launching a new initiative: Eyecare for Empowering Children in Africa (EYECA) with the aim of reducing Uncorrected Refractive Error (URE) prevalence by 25% in schools by 2029.
Program Objectives
- Screening 10 million children and 250,000 teachers, with teachers trained to assist in early detection.
- Distributing corrective glasses to 320,000 students and 37,000 teachers.
- Offering medical treatment to 76,000 children with visual impairments.
- Performing 4,000 surgeries for children with severe visual impairments.
- Enhancing the capacity of national health institutions.
- Launching awareness campaigns to promote the importance of eye health.

ISFD Contribution
The ISFD contribution to the implementation of the program is US$3.5 million.
