Who We Are
The Islamic Solidarity Fund for Development (ISFD) is a special fund at the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Group. The Fund is dedicated to promoting socio-economic development and reducing poverty in the member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. With a clear mission to lead innovative poverty reduction programs, ISFD focuses on developing partnerships that address the most pressing development challenges in IsDB member countries.

ISFD is committed to addressing socio-economic challenges and improving the lives of people in our member countries. We target interventions with proven impact to eradicate poverty. We empower women and youth to drive economic growth, invest in human development to unlock individual potential, and support building resilient communities through access to education, healthcare, and clean energy.

Burkina Faso

Country Overview

Burkina Faso joined IsDB in 1978. As a landlocked West African nation, Burkina Faso faces unique challenges. Over 65% of its 18.9 million people (2017) are under 25, but with a per capita income of US$696 (2017), the country falls within the Low-Income countries category. Droughts and desertification threaten livelihoods and development.

Current Projects

The Islamic Solidarity Fund for Development actively empowers Burkina Faso through impactful projects. Initiatives like the Dangoumana region Hydroagricultural Development (PAHD) and the Sahel Sustainable Pastoralism Development program bolster food security and empower rural communities.

Education and healthcare receive a vital boost through the Out-of-School Children & Adolescent Project and the LLF-Primary Health Care Strengthening initiative. Moreover, the Solar Rural Electrification Project brings clean energy to remote areas, fostering economic growth and social well-being.
