IsDB and ISFD Celebrate Milestone Achievement in Syrian Refugees Learning Difficulties Project
Kuwait City, Kuwait – December 9, 2024 – The Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) and the Islamic Solidarity Fund for Development (ISFD) have successfully concluded the landmark project of the Syrian Refugees Learning Difficulties. This collaborative initiative, implemented in partnership with the International Islamic Charitable Organization, the Human Excellence Society, and a consortium of Arab universities, marks a significant milestone in the educational challenges faced by Syrian refugees.
Launched in mid-2021, the project embarked on a comprehensive six-phase journey. The initial phase focused on intensive research and development, resulting in the production of 27 volumes containing over 420 in-depth studies on learning difficulties and 402 innovative scientific assessment tools.
Building upon these research findings, the second phase established specialized centers in countries hosting Syrian refugees. These centers, equipped with cutting-edge educational resources, provide critical academic and psychological support to students facing learning challenges.
A dedicated team of 22 academic and technical groups, comprising 164 esteemed experts from 12 leading Arab universities, contributed significantly to the project's success. Their collective expertise has resulted in the development of sustainable solutions that directly benefit approximately 15,000 students, empower over 2,000 teachers, and enhance the operational capacity of numerous educational institutions.
Dr. Hiba Ahmed, the ISFD Director General, expressed profound satisfaction with the project's impact, and said that, “The project aligns perfectly with the ISFD's strategic mission of prioritizing human capital development as a cornerstone of sustainable development. It serves as a powerful catalyst for poverty reduction and fosters thriving, resilient communities."
Br. Khemais El Gazzah, the ISFD’s Lead Program Management Specialist, participated in the concluding ceremony and stated that, "This project exemplifies the ISFD’s unwavering commitment to leveraging the power of education to create a brighter future for Syrian refugees." He added, "Our guiding principle throughout this initiative has been clear: 'No Syrian child refugee should be denied the right to education.'"
